Those who make up the housing industry include mortgage lenders, construction companies, and real estate firms, said the firm. And these house-related cuts totaled 26,465 jobs in September alone. Overall job cuts during the same month totaled 71,739.
Mortgage lenders, however, were the most affected in the first nine months of the year, with 70,000 job cuts.
According to Challenger on CNNMoney.com, "declining home prices and an increase in delinquencies and defaults among borrowers has wreaked havoc on the real estate market this year, especially in the past couple of months."
