General Motors (GM) plans on making two shift cuts at a truck plant in Pontiac, Michigan. While the company's first cut may cause hundreds of workers to lose their jobs, the company is uncertain how many workers will be affected when the second shift is cut in May. And in December, GM plans on laying off 767 workers at another plant in Detroit for slow sales of both the Buick Lucerne and the Cadillac DTS. According to spokesman Tom Wickham, "the shift cut is necessary to keep production in line with demand."
