Despite the weakening job market, companies still plan on offering employees their normal salary raises. However, not all employees will collect a raise: it all depends on their line of work.

For example, if working in the housing industry, an employee will most likely not receive a raise. But if an employee works in health care, hotels, or education, where there is a strong demand for workers, he or she has a good chance of acquiring a pay raise.

According to an article on CNNMoney, however, employees may have to "make a case" for their raises. Yes, companies have the money to give. But they are giving it according to performance. So, employees, "convince the boss you've earned it."
