With the national unemployment rate below 5% and 160,000 newly added payroll jobs in October, the last few months in 2007 is a good time to lock in a potential new job. Several reasons include:

There is always a high demand for talent. No matter the month, employers want to hire the best and will do so if they find the right person.
With such a low unemployment rate, the likelihood of employees changing jobs is low. While this is good news for workers, this is tough on employers. Therefore, if you are looking to switch jobs, and you are good at what you do, "you're very marketable right now," said Rich Vandermey, president of Management Recruiters of Yorba Linda.
You'll have less competition now than come 2008. One recruiting professional said that in January "a lot of people flood into the job market. The New Year's resolution phenomenon kicks in."
