What is clear, however, is that the Columbus job market looks bleaker than others. For example, across the states, 22% of employers plan on hiring and only 12% plan on laying off workers. A high of 60% of employers plan on keeping staff levels the same, and only 6% are undecided. Regarding Columbus' low results, "We're feeling the effects of the weak economy in the rest of Ohio," said vice president of economic analysis at the Columbus Chamber Bill LaFayette. "That's been our problem ever since the 2001 recession."
The job market continues to struggle in real estate, construction, and certain areas of manufacturing.
