"There's no question where we're headed, the trend," said economist Esmael Adibi. "The hope actually is that this is going to be a short recession. The recession is going to occur; it's a question of how severe it's going to be."
Because of the job cuts, the Orange County Social Services Agency has seen an increase in its request for aid through its service program, CalWorks. During the first six months of 2007, only 1,549 applicants per month requested aid, while 1,974 per month have requested aid in the last months of the year.
