The study revealed four major recruitment and retention strategies for 2008. Bigger paychecks topped the charts with 74% of retail employers planning to increase salaries for existing employees in 2008. Among other proposed strategies, 28% of retail employers plan to provide more promotions and career advancement opportunities, 21% plan to offer more comprehensive or increased health benefits, and 28% are likely to rehire retirees from other companies this year.
The employee side of the equation: 60% of retail workers are satisfied with their job overall, while 23% plan to leave their jobs in less than a year. "In retail, employees truly are the brand and recruiting and retention efforts should be considered part of the marketing strategy," said Jason Ferrara, vice president of corporate marketing for CareerBuilder.com.
