Struggling against search engine competitor Google, Yahoo plans to cut jobs to help refocus the company. No numbers have been officially announced yet; however, rumors say Yahoo could cut hundreds or even thousands of jobs — possibly as many as 2,000. Among the jobs that would take a hit are those involved in "fringe areas outside of Yahoo's new focus on its main website, ads," says an article on Electronista.com. One reason for Yahoo's cuts is a technology slump due to a weak economy; however, Yahoo remains hopeful. And, if there is any sign of improvement, the company plans on postponing its job cuts.
