On February 13 newspaper publisher Tribune Co. announced that the company will soon experience job cuts. According to Tribune's leader, Sam Zell, the reasons stem from a weakening economy and decreasing cash flow at the paper. Quite a different tone from when Zell first began at the company and promised ''to lead Tribune out of rough business conditions by bucking conventions in the media industry and finding new ways to make money,'' says an article on CNNMoney.com.

The company plans on cutting back at its newspaper-publishing group and corporate office. Those in the finance, HR, and technology sectors will suffer the biggest losses.

Regarding the job cuts Zell said, "Unfortunately, I can't turn this ship from its course of the past 10 years within just a few months. While I will do everything in my power to drive, pull, and drag this company forward, I can't promise we won't see additional position eliminations in the future."
