In what is a rare bright spot in the Michigan economy, California-based Kaiser Aluminum announced plans to add hundreds of new jobs to Kalamazoo in the next few years and will invest $80 million in the community.

The producer of fabricated aluminum products plans to build an aluminum extraction operation in Comstock Township, which will bring 300 immediate new jobs when opened.

Local company Fabri-Kal Corp. also announced that as it expands over a period of five to seven years, it anticipates adding 160 to 200 jobs. Fabri-Kal is a manufacturer of food packaging products. Collectively, the two companies will bring about 500 new jobs to Kalamazoo.
