In Germany, BMW continues to cut costs. Along with a previous cut of 2,500 jobs, the company plans on cutting 5,600 more by the end of 2008. Of the 5,600 jobs, 2,500 are full-time workers in Germany, 2,500 are part-time workers in Germany, and the remaining 600 are other positions not specifically named in other parts of the country. The total losses BMW has seen in the past few months equal 7.5% of BMW's workforce, which comprises 108,000 workers worldwide.
According to BMW's head of personnel, Ernst Baumann, the costs will likely hit the "three-digit million" euro range or roughly €500 million ($752 million).
