According to Edmund F. Kelly, CEO and chairman of Liberty Mutual, "[The new positions] are good, middle-class jobs." Entry-level positions will begin at $35,000 a year and will include health and retirement benefits.
Springfield, which has recently suffered layoffs from Hasbro Inc, Buxton Co., and other businesses, was picked for Liberty Mutual's new office for many reasons, according to Kelly, two being that potential employees in the area are well-educated and the costs of living in Springfield are less than in Boston.
