While the nation struggles to find employment, there is one specific group that seems to be struggling the most — veterans. Of those who are returning from service, 18% remain unemployed, while 25% earn less than $21,840 per year. This information comes from a survey released by the Veterans Affairs Department. 1, 941 veterans who left their positions between December 2004 and January 2006 were polled for the survey.

The report emphasizes the challenges returning veterans face. "Transitioning back into employment, education and/or training after completing military service can be challenging for some military personnel," says the study.

The study also says that veterans are more likely to work for the government when they return, and less likely to work for private-sector employers.
