"The only responsible action to take is to better align our expenses to the reduced revenue we now anticipate," the note adds.
The departments that will suffer the most losses will be the newsroom at 49 jobs, circulation at 47, and advertising at 40.5. Other areas that will also see cuts are information technology at 18, operations at 14, marketing at seven, finance at 6.5, new media at five, and human resources at four.
One copy editor for the Seattle Times seems hopeful, however. Yoko Kuramoto-Eidsmoe said, "Hopefully this will be enough to ensure the company's survival."
