Regarding the dramatic change, Chapman University economics professor Essie Adibi says, "We're not what we used to be. We have to learn this. Given our costs of living here, we are becoming more like the rest of California. [And] because of our proportional dependence on mortgages and construction in the boom, we're going to get hurt more than others."
