According to the Oregon Employment Department, there are nearly 10,000 less jobs in the state this year than last year. And in March, Oregon's unemployment rate rose to 5.7%, according to dailyvanguard.com. So what does this mean for Oregon students ready to graduate? One 20-year-old student, Katrina Griffiths, was recently laid off from her job when her company decided it needed to cut back. Now, she spends her time searching the Internet for jobs, and according to dailyvanguard.com, Griffiths isn't alone. Thousands of other Oregonians are looking for jobs every day.

Steven Rothberg, president of a college recruiting website, said, "The recession is making it more difficult for today's college students to find career-related positions, whether those are part-time work, full-time jobs, internships, or seasonal gigs."

What students need to wait for, Rothberg continued, is for the baby boomers to retire, which will open the doors for new hires everywhere.
