According to a report by the Employment Security Department, Washington State's unemployment rate rose from 4.5% to 4.9% and 3,000 jobs were lost last month. The report

Of the 3,000 jobs lost, 1,500 were lost in "the Seattle region," 1,200 jobs were lost in leisure and hospitality, 700 were lost in transportation, warehousing, and utilities, and 500 were lost in construction.

Because of the job losses, the state's governor, Chris Gregoire, has asked Congress to "invest in an economic stimulus package that generates jobs and paychecks, not a single check."
