If Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines go through with their proposed merger, roughly 1,000 jobs are expected to be cut at the companies' headquarters. The two airliners have recently come before the House Judiciary Committee task force to answer questions about the possible merger. According to Delta CEO Richard Anderson and Northwest CEO Douglas Steenland, the two companies would be better off as a single unit, especially with soaring fuel prices.
Both companies reported net losses in the last quarter. Delta saw a loss of $6.4 billion for the quarter, and Northwest suffered a loss of $4.4 billion.
