In a way the prospective employer wants to know the real you and that is why he spends some time with you to dig into what you are and what you can do for the company. That is why you should be genuine, honest and be yourself.
Be direct and honest
Take the case of a jobseeker and see how far her honesty took her. Just out of the college, she sought an opportunity to be a sales girl. When she was making an effort to sell herself for the job, she was asked how she thought she was best suited for the job. She was frank enough to tell him that she was a green horn and he should know better. She minced no words to tell the hiring manager that she did not believe in telemarketing and cold calling. The interview, however, didn't turn out bad. Though the manager was shocked to hear her, he was impressed with her honesty and told her so. She was asked whether she would like to prefer operations job instead and she attended an interview the next day for the operations job. She got the job.
Build an enthusiastic rapport
Better know that the interview is meant for confirming the credentials and skills your resume speaks about and to know whether you and the company would be a perfect fit.
In the interview, if you are told that you don't have the experience to do the job, you should be able to politely tell the interviewer that you agree that you lack experience in that particular area, but make your point that you didn't as well had enough experience to handle the job you are doing now, but you were able to learn fast and could come up to your boss's expectations.
Your interview mindset
Any employer wants to hire a real you not a phony one. If you were successful in landing a job through falsehood, it will be frustrating for you to get through. Hence you have to decide yourself to what to do.
An Interview is a two-way experience – you will be evaluating the job and the company will be gauging you. Once you accept this fact, it will be easier for you to be yourself at the interview without crossing the professional boundaries. Just relax and take everything in its stride while you are being interviewed. Then you won't be a loser.
It is very difficult to be relaxed when you are nervous and tense. You needn't do any yoga to be relaxed. Days before the interview, practice deep breathing exercises that help you to be more natural through your body language, eye contact, and facial expressions, experts believe.
If you can manage to create a situation where you can make yourself relaxed, you will succeed in today's daunting tough job market. Your chances of getting hired will be brighter.
Be a best-behaved person.
To be real, honest and genuine at interviews will be easier if you rehearsed in front of your mirror. The mantra to success is to answer questions to the best of your ability. Listen and pay attention to what the interviewer asks you. Don't take pretences behind the façade of exaggeration. Accept your failures and enjoy accomplishments. Companies hire people with common sense and brains.
If you keep these little things in mind, success is yours.
