Impact of positive thoughts
Many job seekers visualize the scenario of worst interviews. But according to placement experts you can, if you want, turn the events at the interview to your advantage.
A psychology study on visualization techniques said that a group of job seekers were exposed to traditional career counseling and interview coaching, while another group was taught to learn the use of visualization technique besides the traditional training.
Two months after the training, the study disclosed that only 21 per cent of the group of job seekers who had not practiced the visualization technique got jobs and 66 per cent of job seekers of the other group that mastered the visualization technique landed dream jobs.
Mind training
The difference between good visualization technique and just thinking about the interview is that you program your mind to see only positive aspects you want to happen. Following are the steps that program your mind for a successful interview:
- Lie down quietly in a room. Close your eyes and relax every muscle from head to toe.
- Imagine that you are preparing for the interview that is to be held in the morning. When you visualize entering the interview room, visualize the colors, light, shadows and objects in the room; hear the voice of the interviewer when he welcomes you. Imagine that you are confident and calm while shaking hands.
- Imagine while meeting the interviewer you are warmly smiling and he returns the smile. Imagine that you are answering the questions spontaneously and easily. You feel comfortable. At the end of the interview, imagine hearing the interviewer telling you that you are hired.
Make it work for you
Many job seekers tried this technique and landed good jobs. One job seeker, who was terribly afraid of interviews practiced the technique of mental imagery to prepare for interviews, is now placed well. Another, who used to be at the bottom of the selection list, conquered the third place after practicing visualization technique for about a week before he attended the interview.
Why don't you embrace this technique? You are not losing anything; after all it may work for you.
