Research the Organization/Company in Depth
Any interviewer would expect you to have some knowledge about the company. You should therefore at least try to go through the website of the company, read some of the marketing materials, go through articles about it in trade journals or periodicals. Try to dig deeper by talking to some of the current employees of the company.
Identify the skills you want to sell
Identify the top three experiences or skills that you can offer the company which other applicants cannot. You will have to identify them before the interview and determine how you plan to communicate them to the employer.
Prepare Examples
Everyone can make claims but very few can actually back these claims up. Think about the actual stories that you can tell the interviewer from your previous experiences to support your claims. You can also develop a portfolio and use it as presentation material.
Come Up With Intelligent Questions
At one point in the interview you may be asked if you have any questions you want to ask. Asking intelligent questions will show how interested you are in the organization and the job so it would be important to develop a few smart questions before the interview.
Develop Your Interview Close
A successful candidate would know how to close meetings effectively. You will have to learn how to do the same to leave a positive impression on the interviewer.
Practice
You can practice with mock interviews by signing up at a campus career center. This will provide you a sense of what the interview situation would be like.
Get Ready for Surprises
You may be taken out to dinner or lunch as a part of the process. You may also have a pre-employment test and interview with more than one individual. You will have to be totally prepared to any of these situations.
Get Primped
Ensure that you look professional and your best when you appear in an interview. Invest in a professional looking interview suit so that you can look appropriate.
Know Where You Are Going
A day before the interview, find out where the interview is to be taking place and ensure that you will be able to reach there well in time.
Rest Up
Ensure that you sleep well before the interview so you can be emotionally, psychologically and physically ready for the task.
Don't Forget to Bring A Resume With You
Bring multiple copies of your resume with you. However, avoid bringing anyone at the interview with you.
Accept Your Potential Mistakes
No matter how much you prepare your interview wouldn't be perfect. You would struggle with a few questions and forget to make a few important points. However, you will have to accept this before your interview to take the pressure off. This will allow you to make fewer omissions and mistakes during the interview.
