Workers who are skilled and technically qualified to do manufacturing jobs can literally walk into the hundreds of vacancies that have opened up owing to lack of skilled workers.
Workers in the new-found oil industries are also desperately sought for, with the areas where oil-fields have been discovered being littered with signs sayings, "workers wanted" and "we are hiring" on establishments everywhere.
Here then is a list of ten cities that have weathered the economy and unemployment storm and where job-hunters are likely to find the success that has eluded them elsewhere. If you are willing to relocate yourself, these cities will probably give you a job and the salary that you are looking for.
1) Hartford Connecticut:
Even though in paper it has a high unemployment rate, it has only 2.09 individuals per advertised job. Three companies are great employment providers: They are United Technologies, an aerospace and technology company, investment company Hartford Financial Services Group and Aetna Health and Aetna Health Insurance Company.
2) New York
Reported to be the city that is on the move 24x7, it has a very low 1.81 individuals per advertised job. The city's finance and insurance industry and the food and accommodations industry that caters to the 50 million tourists who visit New York each year are areas were employment is available.
3) Milwaukee
This is the largest city in Wisconsin and has a flourishing Healthcare industry. 5 companies in the healthcare industry employ more than 3,000 people each. Add to this the Medical College of Wisconsin, which employs almost twice that number.
4) Baltimore
Maryland's largest city is known for its health and education. The Johns Hopkins University is the largest job provider of the city and has more than 39,000 workers. Yet another significant job-provider is the University of Maryland which has a total of nearly 18,000 employees.
5) Austin
Austin has a very healthy job market and many technical jobs are available. Dell Computers is based here and IBM and Apple employ thousands of workers. There are many other educational and healthcare industries were jobs could be sourced.
6) St. Paul Minnesota
It has a large manufacturing industry that provides employment to 12 percent of the city's employees. The twin cities metro region has 18 Fortune 500 companies. The government also accounts for a large proportion of the local workforce.
7) Oklahoma
The government is the biggest provider of jobs in Oklahoma City. Telecommunication companies do major business here and are prospective employers for job-seekers. AT&T, Cellular provider Dobson Communications, Cox Communications are amongst the city's top employment providers.
8) Boston
Business here is booming. It is home to Liberty Mutual, a Fortune 500 company but healthcare and education are its major job providers. Tens of thousands of people are employed by hospitals and hiring education institutions.
9) Salt Lake City
Intermountain Healthcare provides employment to 26,000 full time employees. Major employers include the University of Utah, the State of Utah and the city's International airport.
10) Washington D.C.
The federal government employs more than 200,000 people. But there are a number of other areas that could be potential job providers. Washington DC has the lowest unemployment rate, at 6 percent it's more than 3 percent less than the national average. It has the lowest unemployment rate of all the cities on this list.
