Spousal support: If your spouse has a post with flexibility, you can manage your work and personal life quite well. Like any other employee, you also get dreaded calls when your spouse is away and all your plans collapse. If the call is about your kid falling ill, you have no option but to go and pick her up, cancelling your important presentation. In some companies, it (presentation) becomes a do-it-or-die situation.
Some are fortunate to have sportive wives, though highly qualified, to stay at home to manage things. Some others hire either part-time or full-time nannies to look after the domestic chores. Such extra help takes off a lot of pressure.
Some HR executives manage good time with their wives. You may wonder how they do it. They hire people, train them and let them know his situation up front. They tell their potential staff that they can expect some sort of work-life balance. Such executives are lucky to work in companies that allow them to do so. They are explained to take the load off when the bosses are need to be away from the office for some time.
They allow their staff to work reduced schedules when needed. They are allowed telecommuting in certain situations. Some of them have to stick to normal routine schedules.
There are quite a few executives who attend workplace three days or so and the rest of the week commute from home. While working from home they chart out their work in such a way that they can do justice to both work and family. Sometimes, they work extra hours as well. Thus they maintain a balance between the work and personal life.
You can find some executives who choose to work on commission basis. In such cases, they are free to accept or reject work offers. Anyhow, some of them have to make some compromises either on the home front or on the work front.
Though the corporate world has made strides in helping employees strike a work-life balance, a lot has yet to be done in that direction. Even now we come across HR executives who are averse to hire workers on a flexible schedule.
Can HR executives strike work-life balance? The answer is maybe. Yes they have to make some compromises along the way to keep the family and the employer happy.
