It is really impossible to be fit when you are shut in your cubicle and work from 9 to 5. Most of your coworkers may not get up from the chair even after 5.
However comedic routine it may be, a little bit of exercise at the office is a ray hope. You can find time and ways to exercise at the workplace if you are willing to think creatively. Think of sit-ups, trunk twists, laps around the conference table and such other quickies; can't you at least try them?
Change your routine a bit
Make a beginning. Park your car at the farthest end of the lot and walk down to your workplace. Don't use the elevator, take the stairs. Don't you think that walking down to your colleagues to talk to them is refreshing? Likewise, stop ringing them up or emailing them and move your limbs a bit. If you are the most sedentary, these small steps will show the refreshing and delightful results. But, mind you, these are just a start. Any day, solid intense workouts are advisable.
Exercise to heart
Can't you spare time to take a break and climb up the stairs for just 10 minutes? If you can, it is enough time to give exercise to your heart. It doesn't take more time than your coffee break. It is worthwhile. Do you know by this bit of exercise you will be burning 150 calories, assuming you weigh 150 pounds? With that you can accelerate your metabolism without sweating.
If there are any negative reactions to your 10-minute breaks either ignore them or explain why you are doing this.
Other easy exercises designed for white-collar workers: wall presses (like pull-ups, against a wall), stand-ups (squats into a desk chair) and knee-ups (in a chair, bringing knees up).
A great idea
Many fitness experts suggest replacing the desk chair with a big exercise ball. Be the first to discard the chair and bring in the big balancing ball. In the beginning, some eye balls may roll, but soon it becomes a trend setter. That way, in course of time, you may help your employer prune expenditure. Balance balls sell for as little as $20.
All these activities may not be possible in all work environs. The solution then is nothing but an off-site exercise break. If your office gives you long lunch breaks, use them to make yourself fit to work. Walk down to a gym nearby your work, run 3 miles using a treadmill, take a shower and return to work within an hour.
Remember exercise is not just for getting a slimmer waistline. A sedentary lifestyle may lead to heart diseases.
