Let us see what the expert says.
It can be done. You have to persuade your potential employer to agree to allow you to work from home. In your letter to the company explain how the company will be benefited if you work from home. You can for instance say that you will be able to work during the time you would have spent commuting to the workplace.
We have to address some concerns of the company, such as how you will be able to communicate with your colleagues, your willingness to attend meetings and such other things. You can even mention in your letter how you will show results for your increased flexibility.
If you know anybody in your company or in similar companies who is telecommunicating or working flexible hours, then using those examples as successful models may work in your favor.
If you don't get a favorable response, try to clarify the significant concerns of the employer and think of new solutions to address them.
If you are new to the company or the post, better consult your colleague, preferably in management, who is in the know of things; he may help you sort out the issue.
If this is issue is important for you and you are being interviewed for the job, be sure you get what you want before you accept the job offer.
