Truckers are often away from home for days and sometimes for moths together. It is very difficult to keep going a good relationship when two people are apart for a long time. You get frustrated with the confusion of life. You don't know when your spouse would return home and you have to attend to all the problems on the home front. Everybody can't withstand the vagaries of trucking life.
Effective communication
Truckers should stick to a scheduled time and day to call home. Better to talk to home every three or five hours to maintain good communication. Don't bring up any big issues when the spouse is on the road, wait for her/his return home. You know we don't telephone someone at the office with a big issue. You should understand that drivers should concentrate on driving. Sometimes you have to contact them when they are on the road, but you must limit yourself to emergencies only.
Make the best out of it
Money is good in trucking business. But you must understand how it works in your life. This understanding would help you make a change in the dynamics of your relationship with your spouse. When your hubby returns home for two days or so, you better spend most of your time with him instead of asking him to attend to some mundane work. The key to keep a sound relationship is to take care of all the household tasks that your husband used to do.
When you are at home you should make good of the time with your wife. Help your wife in every way forget the week you were away. Build trust in each other. Don't leave home under stress and carry any problems with you. Learn to celebrate your husband's homecoming. Finally, work out a congenial schedule that keeps both of you happy and look for the next sweet event.
