Whether you use an electronic tool or notebook, make sure to keep track of these crucial pieces of info:
- Expectations: requirements and goals that were listed. Standard operating process, guidelines or rules reviewed. Deadlines set as well as timelines established.
- Concrete actions: your real work as you finish each to do item, accomplish each goal, complete each requirement as well as meet each deadline.
- Measurement: how your tangible actions are harmonizing with the prospect. Have you exceeded or met the requirements? Did you follow the standard operating process, rules and instructions? Did you meet the objectives on time?
Stick to obvious explanations of tangible actions in terms of guidelines, goals and deadlines. During and after your 1-on-1 meetings with the boss, make notes as required. In between the 1-on-1s, keep notes of everything of consequence. You should write down the things you wish to report or ask in your next meeting.
