While telling your boss what he or she should do with a particular report, you would like to retain your job. But when you say something, you may not be able to judge how it affects your job. You may be doing harm to your prospects when you carelessly speak up.

Taking Care Before Speaking To Your Boss
Here are 10 phrases the boss hates:
  1. 'It is important, I want to talk': His importance is another's frivolity. In this busy corporate world, managers don't have time to listen to everything. If you need to talk to your boss, explain to him what you want to talk about.

  2. 'Don't teach me': Be careful. Don't tell your boss that there is nothing to learn. It is irritating. Tell him you know how to attend to that job.

  3. 'Don't understand': If you say you don't understand every time when you are told to do something, the manager thinks you are worthless.

  4. 'Repeat please': If you ask your boss to repeat, it is okay if it is a once-in-a-while affair. If every time you ask your manager to repeat what he says indicates that you don't pay attention to him or you don't respect him.

  5. 'I couldn't go there': It means you didn't follow what you were told to do. If you say so repeatedly, you prove to be unreliable. When the time comes for promotion you will not be considered because no manager trusts an unreliable person.

  6. 'That is not my job description': If you are asked to do something that is not your job, keep that to yourself. In today's work environment, there is nothing that can't be done. You are expected to do sometimes what is not your duty.

  7. 'It isn't my fault": The boss gets wild when you try to cover up your mistake by blaming someone else. This shows that you are not only unreliable but also deceptive.

  8. 'Would you please tell so-and-so to stop talking loud?' :You can't expect your boss to solve your personal problem. If you can't fix a thing with your co-worker you can seek your boss' advice, but in no case you expect him to respond to your complaint.

  9. 'I have a family, I'm going home': The work day ends at 5 o'clock, but once in a while you have to stay beyond the usual time to finish a particular job. That is usual practice in many companies. Before you speak up, understand the policies of your company.

  10. 'Get a slave': Don't say this to your boss on the last day of your job. Even when you are leaving an organization, don't burn your bridges. Your ex-boss may be a good reference for future positions. So don't create such situations for which you have to regret later.
If you are not satisfied with any aspect of the job -- the amount of work, the way you are asked to work, or any other irritant better move out of that place gracefully. Otherwise you will be carrying the dissatisfaction and unhappiness to the next job.
