Romance vs. Reality
Life is not a fairy tale, so you cannot count on a happily ever after. You could argue against the unfairness of it all, but it is just a fact. The arrow must have stabbed the heart of somebody nice who works with the company. If you are smart, you’ll side with the actual world and know how this story ends. One of you might be required to leave the work if things do not work out. However, if things work out, one of you might still have to go, as it is against corporation rules to date fellow co-workers.
What If You Get a Promotion?
What if you get involved with somebody in your office and you get a promotion? Now you are in an affiliation with your inferior. This could lead to unfairness and choosing sides in the company. It can also create hard feelings between the two people if one got the promotion and the other didn’t. These could both be bad.
Play It Cool
Are you still thinking of dating a co-worker? You will need a lot of concentrated effort and energy to keep your office romance just between the two of you. When co-workers ultimately start finding out, you might be the subject of mockery and doubt. If you wish people to acknowledge you on your professional capabilities, then do not provide them with things to fuel the gossip wheel.
Remember It Is Not Just About You
You might think this is a personal issue, but is it really? Logic tells you your amorous participation will affect your co-workers in a direct manner. If you sit together on break, will people feel that they should offer you solitude? Will they leave out of certain discussions because they do not know what you will tell to your new love? Deliberately or subconsciously, your relationship might influence judgements that go further than a lunchroom. Your romance might also effect everybody’s decisions about projects, promotions, responsibilities and team building. The relationship can make it tough on your department according to your position and company.
