A Word for Executives Open to Change

Remember that executive recruiters are paid by management and so must be oriented. They rarely interview unless with a specific job in mind, and most do not even acknowledge resumes. If you're lucky enough to have qualifications matching a recruiter's current assignment, however, the road to an interview can be almost instantaneous. A few cautions:

• Don't telephone to follow Up: This is a waste of your time and an annoyance to the recruiter.
• Don't walk in and expect an interview.
• Don't attempt to fool anyone on present or expected salary level. These experts have a way of zeroing in on the truth. Frankness and honesty is the best policy.

While some recruiters file over-the-transom resumes, most don't. So repeat in six months if you are still in the market.

And don't take any listed salary minimums too literally- merely use as a general guide.



One last word: the recruiter as a professional must respect the confidence of your situation. This is automatic. If you have any doubts, don't venture out. There is always a remote possibility of a slip-up, but this is a chance you have to take once you have decided to test the market or make a change.
