As I discovered, as many flight attendants have, I had so much fun, and loved my job so much, why in the heck would I want to go back to college? What makes it fun? You have no immediate boss, your schedule is always flexible, you work with different individuals, you meet interesting people, you have time to do other things since you have so many days off (even other jobs) and oh yes, you go get to travel everywhere! So what is not to like? Well...there are some things, but overall, every job has those things, and dealing with the public in any sort of job is most certainly challenging.
After 16 years at Western, Delta bought Western and now we were Delta, the Southern airline with Southern "Belles". Our Los Angeles "Wild Western" group learned how to be Southern, well, sort of. I think we always were a bit more "out there"-yet another fun thing that the airline brought to my life. Being a flight attendant helped me create my fun personality. I was one of the "girls" who would have passengers guess our ages and our weight (oh not so much anymore!). We played tricks on passengers, (ones they liked) and played tricks on fellow employees (ones maybe they didn't like so much). Not many jobs allow individuals to express their selves in so many ways without getting admonished for it. Oh yes, dare I forget, I did have some wonderful dates that I met on my flights.
So why did I quit? I learned so much from my passengers about life and business, that I decided I would start my own business. I call it my second career. I invented Finders Key Purse(r), an accessory that prevents your key chain from falling to the bottom of the purse, and used my flight attendant friends to be my sales team. And sell they did-1 million Finders Key Purse(r) were sold in our first year of business.
You see that I have many reasons why I loved being a "stew". Oh those good old days...
