Senior Counsel

The candidate should have a Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school and admission to Michigan Bar or the ability to practice in-house for a Michigan company. Must have 6 years of experience practicing as an attorney, with a focus on privacy, data security and compliance. Experience advising corporate clients on compliance-related matters, including marketing, information security, data governance, credit card/PCI, and privacy. Experience building and managing privacy compliance programs, and operationalizing privacy and data security compliance requirements, including, but not limited to the California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA), the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Electronic Communications Privacy Act, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR), the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), the CAN-SPAM Act and state eavesdropping laws. Experience implementing compliance programs and effectively managing projects. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing requirements. Skilled at distilling abstract concepts into clear, simple terms coupled with effective legal advice. Exceptional organization skills. Draft, review, and partner with business leaders to implement compliance plans. Manage compliance projects. Provide reporting to senior leaders on compliance initiatives. Research and advise on policies, procedures, statutes, regulations, and industry best practices. Provide support to government affairs on proposed changes in law, new laws, etc.. Draft, review, and audit policy and procedure documents. Clearly and concisely communicate complex legal issues to appropriate business and legal stakeholders for consideration and action. Provide solution-focused recommendations and legal strategies to business partners and outside counsel to proactively mitigate risks.
