Job Overview:
A law firm located in Overland Park, KS, is seeking a motivated litigation associate to join its team, focusing on defending insured clients across a wide array of matters. This position is ideal for a candidate looking to gain hands-on experience in insurance and personal injury law within Kansas and Missouri. The role includes opportunities for court appearances, motion practice, and case management from inception through resolution.

Duties:

• Prepare and respond to legal motions and briefs

• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda

• Engage in regular communication with clients regarding case progress

• Handle depositions of parties, witnesses, and expert witnesses

• Appear in court for hearings, mediations, pre-trial conferences, and trials

• Assist in developing litigation strategy and case planning

• Manage case files and meet litigation deadlines independently

Requirements:

• Licensed to practice law in Kansas or Missouri (dual licensure strongly preferred)

• Demonstrated experience or interest in insurance defense or personal injury litigation

• Excellent writing and oral advocacy skills

• Solid case management and organizational abilities

• Ability to manage a diverse caseload and prioritize tasks effectively

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active Bar membership in Kansas or Missouri

• Bar membership in both states is highly advantageous

Skills:

• Persuasive legal writing and analytical reasoning

• Strong interpersonal and communication capabilities

• Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to litigation tasks

• Familiarity with district and federal court procedures

• Technologically proficient with legal research tools and case management software
