Job Summary

Small Austin law firm seeking a motivated and detail-oriented associate to join our legal team.  Our practice is concentrated on representation of local governments over a wide variety of issues, including torts, civil rights, eminent domain, landfill siting and regulation, redistricting, voting rights, election disputes, employment claims, road disputes and subdivision regulation litigation. The ideal candidate will provide legal counsel, represent clients in legal proceedings, conduct legal research, draft legal documents, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This position offers an opportunity to work on challenging legal matters while collaborating with a dynamic team of professionals. Travel is common, requiring an organized, self-sufficient and disciplined individual with experience with time and expense billing

Key Responsibilities

• Trial preparation and courtroom experience, including file responsibility, motion practice and deposition experience.
• Provide legal advice and guidance to clients.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, pleadings, and other legal documents.
• Conduct legal research and analyze statutes, regulations, and case law.
• Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, and negotiations, as needed.
• Develop legal strategies to protect client interests and achieve favorable outcomes.
• Maintain accurate case files and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with senior attorneys on complex legal matters.
• Manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively from pre-litigation inception through appellate disposition with supervision from senior attorneys.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2-3+ years of legal experience preferred in governmental representation.  
• Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Outstanding negotiation and communication abilities.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
