Senior Attorney
The candidate will provide counsel to other department staff on matters affecting the department and the Chief Financial Officer. Provide in-house opinions in areas under the jurisdiction of the department and the Chief Financial Officer on designated matters, including providing legal advice and assistance to the offices and divisions within the department regarding procurement, contracting, and rulemaking matters. Handle all legal aspects of rule promulgation by the department, including research, drafting, analysis, and review. Handle opinions on rules. Prepare procurement and contract template documents. Review procurement and contract documents regarding matters within the jurisdiction of the department and the Chief Financial Officer and determine compliance with applicable state and federal laws and department rules. Handle all aspects of legislation affecting the department and the Chief Financial Officer as-needed, including research, drafting, and analysis. Provide opinions regarding legislation and statutory interpretation. Act as a mentor providing guidance and assistance to designated attorneys and staff. A Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited college or university is required. Admission to the Florida Bar is required. Senior Attorney positions require two (2) or more years of legal experience. Preference will be given to applicants who have either 1 year’s legal experience with procurement and contracting review responsibilities for a public entity or 1 year’s legal experience with rule promulgation responsibilities for a public entity. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and either Westlaw or Lexis/Nexis legal research tools required.
