Job Title: Family Law Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A respected law firm based in Los Angeles, CA, is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Family Law Associate Attorney. This role is ideal for a legal professional with a solid background in family law who is eager to manage a moderately sized caseload and collaborate closely with a seasoned principal attorney. The successful candidate will handle a range of responsibilities from pleadings to routine hearings, all while receiving guidance and mentorship from a Certified Family Law Specialist (CFLS) who is also a CPA with nearly three decades of experience.
Duties:
Manage a personal caseload of approximately 25–35 active family law matters
Draft and file initial pleadings such as divorce, legal separation, and parentage petitions
Prepare responses to petitions and conduct discovery processes
Complete Preliminary and Final Declarations of Disclosure (PDD and FDD)
Draft and argue Requests for Orders (RFOs) and various family law motions
Appear for routine and uncontested hearings independently
Assist the principal attorney with complex court proceedings, including evidentiary hearings and trials
Shadow the principal attorney during court appearances to develop litigation experience
Engage collaboratively on strategic decisions for case direction and client advocacy
Requirements:
Minimum 2 years of practical experience in family law
Admission to practice law in California and an active license in good standing
Strong understanding of California family law procedures and documentation
Demonstrated ability to manage cases independently with appropriate supervision
High professional integrity and a strong interest in supporting families through legal challenges
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Active member of the California State Bar (required)
Skills:
Proficient in legal research and drafting family law pleadings
Effective communicator with strong writing and oral advocacy skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines and court filings
Competence in navigating legal software and case management tools
Collaborative approach with a willingness to learn under mentorship
Empathetic, client-centered mindset with a problem-solving orientation
