Job Overview
A well-established law firm specializing in asbestos-related illness litigation is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its team in Oakland, California. The ideal candidate will work closely with a Partner to handle case-related duties, focusing on providing legal services for clients suffering from asbestos-related diseases, including mesothelioma.

Location

Duties

  • Conduct litigation activities and advise clients on their legal rights.

  • Gather evidence, conduct legal research, and interview clients and witnesses.

  • Draft legal documents, prepare expert witnesses, and manage trial or hearing preparations.

  • Take depositions and handle discovery matters.

  • Represent clients in court proceedings and hearings.

  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations relevant to cases.

  • Collaborate with the legal team to ensure quality performance.

  • Direct other attorneys and paralegals in the implementation of litigation strategies.

  • May participate in trials as first or second chair.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervising Partner.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of litigation experience (preferred).

  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, court personnel, clients, and defense attorneys.

  • Strong research and writing skills.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work efficiently and independently.

  • Ability to take depositions, handle discovery, and present legal arguments clearly and logically.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for team collaboration and relationship building.

  • Basic trial skills, with the ability to prepare legal briefs and formulate strategies.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Knowledge of legal ethics and legal research tools such as WESTLAW.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active member in good standing of the California State Bar.

Skills

  • Excellent research and writing skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.

  • Ability to think independently and act in the best interest of clients.

  • Proficiency in MS Office and legal research tools (e.g., WESTLAW).

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments independently and meet deadlines.
