Job Overview: A law firm in Oakland, CA is seeking a highly qualified Senior Biotechnology Patent Agent with a strong background in life sciences to join their team. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in a relevant field such as biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or immunology, along with 5 years of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. Expertise in bioinformatics, chemistry, or materials science is desirable. The successful candidate should demonstrate autonomy in their work and possess excellent client management skills.

Duties:

  • Prepare and prosecute biotechnology patent applications.
  • Conduct prior art searches and analyze patent landscapes.
  • Collaborate with inventors, attorneys, and clients to strategize patent prosecution.
  • Provide technical and legal support in patent litigation and licensing matters.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends in biotechnology.

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or immunology.
  • 5 years of experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
  • Expertise in bioinformatics, chemistry, or materials science is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.

Education:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or immunology.

Certifications:

  • Patent Agent registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred.

  • Proficiency in patent prosecution processes and procedures.
