Project Director

The candidate will supervise the project staff and their work so that the project provides high-quality legal representation and services to eligible clients regarding the legal issues being targeted. Maintain a caseload providing representation to eligible clients. Collaborate with other ILS offices and projects by sharing expertise, research, and pleadings, and by consulting, training, and co-counseling cases as appropriate. Supervise a diverse team of advocates committed to helping low-wage workers and migrant farmworkers understand and exercise their legal rights. Recruit and train summer interns and Pro Bono counsel. Provide comprehensive legal services to clients with employment law-related matters, including unemployment, wage theft, discrimination, unlawful working and housing conditions, human trafficking, unsafe working conditions, pesticide exposure, and immigration law matters including labor-based U and T visas for survivors of workplace crimes and human trafficking. Represent agricultural workers in administrative complaints and state or federal litigation. Run and review compliance reports to ensure the project operates in compliance with all relevant statutes, regulations, rules, grant requirements, and the organization's policies. Draft grant applications and reports for funders. Oversee know-your-rights outreach to migrant farm workers and communities vulnerable to human trafficking. Represent the organization at community meetings and engage with statewide coalition partners. Manage relationships with and provide legal trainings to community partners. Train stakeholders on identifying the legal needs of agricultural workers. Collaborate with partners in strategic planning and impact litigation. Respond to media inquiries and direct WRAPP's social media messaging. Make appropriate referrals to outside agencies. Help organize state and regional legal training events. Attend trainings and maintain up-to-date knowledge of current farmworker law issues. Assure the project reaches all relevant areas of the state. Should have a Juris Doctorate degree and be licensed to practice law in Indiana, or able to become barred soon after acceptance. Experience working with migrant farmworkers, low wage workers, and/or survivors of human trafficking and experience with employment and/or immigration law is preferred. Must have a demonstrated commitment to the mission of Indiana Legal Services, which is to use the law to fight poverty and racism, empower clients, and improve access to justice. Fluency in Spanish and English is required.
