Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm in San Diego is seeking a Senior Family Law Attorney with a minimum of six years of experience to join its family law practice group. This position offers a partner-track career path and the opportunity to manage a diverse caseload involving all facets of family law. Ideal candidates will have extensive litigation and client management experience, a strong command of California family law, and a proven ability to handle complex matters from intake to resolution. Attorneys with a portable book of business are encouraged to apply but it is not a requirement.

Location:

  • San Diego, California

Duties:

  • Manage family law cases from initial consultation through resolution

  • Handle matters involving:

    • Dissolution of marriage

    • Custody and visitation disputes

    • Spousal and child support issues

    • Property division

    • Relationship agreements

  • Draft and review legal documents including:

    • Settlement proposals

    • Pleadings

    • Discovery requests

    • Requests for order

    • Trial briefs

  • Represent clients in court for appearances, hearings, trials, and settlement conferences

  • Supervise and mentor associate attorneys and legal staff

  • Delegate and review legal work product for quality and consistency

  • Ensure high-quality client service and meet billable hour expectations

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 years of family law litigation experience

  • Strong knowledge of California Family Code and California Rules of Court

  • Familiarity with Bay Area Superior Courts, including:

    • San Francisco

    • San Mateo

    • Marin

    • Alameda

    • Contra Costa

    • Santa Clara

  • Proven ability to manage high-volume caseloads in a fast-paced environment

  • Prior experience mentoring junior attorneys or legal staff preferred

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active California Bar license in good standing

Skills:

  • Exceptional legal writing and research skills

  • Strong interpersonal and client communication abilities

  • Proficient in legal tools and software such as:

    • LexisNexis / Westlaw

    • Dissomaster / Xspouse

    • Essential Forms

    • Practice management platforms

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize deadlines, and lead effectively

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative team player
