The successful candidate will handle a spectrum of real estate matters—drafting and negotiating contracts, performing due diligence, and supporting both transactional and dispute-related work on behalf of property owners, developers, and investors.

Duties

  • Prepare and negotiate agreements for property acquisitions and dispositions, ensuring client interests are protected

  • Draft and review commercial lease documents, addressing rent structures, tenant obligations, and renewal options

  • Examine and negotiate financing instruments with lenders, including loan covenants and security provisions

  • Analyze title commitments and survey reports to identify risks and recommend solutions

  • Develop operating and joint venture agreements to govern partnerships and investment vehicles

  • Assist with real estate–related disputes, collaborating with litigation counsel as needed

  • Coordinate with clients, title companies, and lenders to facilitate smooth closings and timely document execution

  • Collaborate with colleagues to research zoning regulations, entitlements, and property-specific legal considerations

Requirements

  • Two to four years of experience in commercial real estate, whether transaction-focused or litigation-focused (a mix of both is a plus)

  • Active license to practice law in Ohio and maintained in good standing

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with document-management tools

  • Proven ability to cultivate a personal client base and contribute to the firm’s growth objectives

  • Excellent drafting and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail in contract language and due-diligence review

  • Strong organizational capabilities and the capacity to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently

  • Demonstrated work ethic, adaptability, and collaborative attitude when working with a team

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

  • Admission to the Ohio Bar (required)

  • Any additional real estate-related certifications (e.g., Certified Commercial Investment Member) are advantageous but not mandatory

Skills

  • Advanced legal drafting: crafting precise purchase agreements, leases, and financing documents

  • Negotiation acumen: securing favorable terms for clients in acquisitions, leases, and financing transactions

  • Due diligence expertise: reviewing title commitments, surveys, and regulatory requirements to identify potential issues

  • Research proficiency: navigating zoning ordinances, land-use regulations, and relevant case law to support client objectives

  • Interpersonal communication: building rapport with clients, lenders, title agents, and other stakeholders

  • Time management: prioritizing tasks effectively and meeting strict closing or filing deadlines without compromising quality

  • Team collaboration: working seamlessly with paralegals, colleagues, and external professionals to deliver cohesive legal solutions

  • Client development: ability to engage prospects, pitch services, and nurture long-term relationships for future business growth
