General Counsel

The candidate will advise the District Attorney and her executive staff on legal issues and strategy with respect to complex cases. Communicate with legislators, policymakers, and community stakeholders about the Office’s work. Oversee the Office’s legislative program, including researching and monitoring policy changes that impact the field of criminal law, advocating for the District Attorney’s policy agenda, drafting legislation, and supervising Assistant District Attorneys in the reviewing and drafting of legislation. Assist the Director of Hiring and Training with the development and implementation of educational and training programs for the office and other community stakeholders. Draft talking points, policy briefings, and other material for the District Attorney and members of the MDAO. Ensure the quality of service by maintaining the efficiency of internal operations and suggesting improvements thereon if needed. Review agency contracts. Prepare key documents and presentations for executive team members on policy objectives. Oversee the analysis and response to defendant requests for medical parole. Create and oversee community outreach programs. Assist Public Records Team. Other tasks as assigned by the District Attorney. Maintain the efficiency of internal operations and suggesting improvements thereon if needed. Partner with Human Resources on internal investigation and policy implementation. Juris Doctor degree from accredited school degree is required. Should have 5+ years of practice with a law firm or state agency.
