A law firm seeks a dedicated attorney to join its remote team, representing legal professionals in disciplinary and ethics matters. This fully remote opportunity is available to residents of California, Washington, Arizona, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, and Florida, working 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST. The successful candidate will provide specialized counsel and defense strategy to attorneys navigating bar association applications and disciplinary proceedings.
Duties
Advocate on behalf of attorney-clients in state bar applications and disciplinary hearings, ensuring their professional rights are safeguarded
Offer clear guidance on ethical duties, professional responsibility, and adherence to bar association regulations
Maintain consistent, transparent communication with clients regarding case status, developments, and next steps
Attend and actively participate in disciplinary proceedings, presenting persuasive arguments, cross-examining witnesses, and submitting evidence to counter allegations
Investigate complaints by reviewing relevant documentation, interviewing witnesses, and analyzing all facts related to alleged ethical infractions
Craft tailored defense plans, assemble supporting evidence, and prepare all necessary pleadings (motions, responses, briefs) per governing rules
Negotiate potential resolutions with bar authorities to secure favorable outcomes while upholding ethical standards
Collaborate with colleagues—sharing insights, pooling expertise, and coordinating defense tactics—within a cohesive team environment
Accurately record daily time entries and case-related activities using the firm’s practice management software (Clio)
Contribute positively to the firm’s culture and client-focused mission; undertake additional projects as assigned
Requirements
Minimum of five years of legal practice, with substantial experience in legal ethics, professional responsibility, or disciplinary defense
Active bar membership in at least one state; experience practicing before the California State Bar is highly valued
In-depth understanding of state bar association rules and regulations governing attorney conduct
Proven ability to manage multiple complex matters concurrently under tight deadlines
Exceptional analytical and legal research capabilities, including the capacity to distill intricate ethical issues into persuasive arguments
Strong negotiation and problem-solving aptitude; aptitude for drafting clear, concise, and compelling legal documents
Excellent oral advocacy skills and polished written communication suitable for disciplinary hearings and related filings
High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive information
Education
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications
Active membership in good standing with a state bar association
Skills
Demonstrated experience working independently, prioritizing tasks, and adapting to shifting demands in a fast-paced setting
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel) and ease in learning new technology platforms and software
Ability to build rapport and effectively liaise with attorneys, support staff, and bar association representatives
Strong organizational talents and unwavering attention to detail to ensure timeliness and accuracy in all deliverables
High emotional intelligence and openness to feedback, fostering a collaborative approach to strategy development
Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing)
