Profile

A law firm in Charlotte, NC is seeking a White Collar and Government Investigations Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience in international trade regulatory compliance and enforcement, with specific expertise in the Committee on Foreign Investments (CFIUS), United States export controls, and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). A general understanding of the Defense Priorities & Allocation System (DPAS) is preferred. The candidate should demonstrate a strong ability to support active teams in these areas and must be admitted and actively Barred in the state.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in matters involving international trade regulatory compliance, including CFIUS, ITAR, and U.S. export controls.
  • Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance on compliance with export controls and other relevant regulations.
  • Prepare and file regulatory submissions, including applications and compliance documentation.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into potential compliance issues and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including compliance policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to ensure regulatory requirements are met and potential issues are addressed proactively.
  • Respond to and manage inquiries and investigations by government agencies related to international trade.
  • Stay informed on current developments in international trade regulations and advise clients on their implications.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of strategies for managing regulatory compliance and enforcement.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in handling international trade regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters.
  • Demonstrated experience with CFIUS, ITAR, and U.S. export controls.
  • General knowledge of the Defense Priorities & Allocation System (DPAS) is preferred.
  • Proven ability to support active teams in complex regulatory environments.
  • Must be admitted and actively Barred in the state of North Carolina.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the North Carolina State Bar and active Bar status.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of international trade regulations, including CFIUS, ITAR, and U.S. export controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in legal research and drafting.
  • Effective management of multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
