Job Overview:
A Portland-based law firm is seeking an experienced litigation associate to support its insurance and reinsurance practice. This opportunity is ideal for a mid-level attorney who thrives on complex insurance coverage analysis and enjoys working on high-stakes disputes. The role involves direct collaboration with seasoned litigators and insurers on a broad spectrum of commercial and professional liability cases.

Duties:

• Handle complex insurance coverage matters involving professional liability, general liability, and directors and officers (D&O) policies

• Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, and discovery requests

• Participate in and manage depositions, hearings, and court appearances

• Oversee discovery strategy and motion practice

• Support client engagement activities, including case strategy meetings and reporting

• Contribute to business development initiatives and maintain client relationships

• Manage matters independently or as part of a collaborative litigation team

Requirements:

• 4 to 7 years of experience in insurance coverage and commercial litigation

• Proven ability to interpret and apply policy language across various insurance products

• Familiarity with all phases of litigation, from pleadings to resolution

• Demonstrated experience in handling high-value, complex claims

• Prior exposure to reinsurance disputes is considered a plus

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school

Certifications:

• Admission to the Bar in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; Oregon Bar admission or eligibility for prompt admission is preferred

Skills:

• Strong legal research and persuasive writing abilities

• Effective verbal communication and courtroom presence

• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills

• Capable of working autonomously while coordinating with broader teams

• Business development mindset and client-focused approach
