Job Overview:

A well-established law firm based in Parsippany, NJ, is seeking a Senior Patent Agent to support a sophisticated intellectual property practice. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced legal professionals on complex patent matters in the life sciences field, including biotech, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices. Duties:

• Conduct patentability assessments across a broad range of technologies

• Draft, prepare, and file patent applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

• Manage U.S. patent prosecution activities and liaise with international representatives for foreign filings

• Contribute to IP due diligence processes and assist in maintaining patent portfolios strategically

• Perform detailed legal and technical research on patent law and intellectual property issues

• Coordinate with legal teams, corporate clients, and technical personnel to refine IP strategies

• Act as a communication bridge between internal departments and external patent stakeholders

Requirements:

• At least 4 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution in either private practice or an in-house legal department

• Demonstrated expertise in technologies related to life sciences, especially in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or medical devices

• Registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, or eligible to sit for the Patent Bar shortly

• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary setting

• Experience in mechanical or electrical IP matters is considered advantageous

Education:

• Ph.D. in a life sciences-related discipline such as molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, or a closely aligned field

Certifications:

• USPTO Registration (or eligibility for registration in the short term)

• Proficient in navigating scientific literature and technical documents
