Deputy Director/Agency Legal Counsel
The candidate will work side-by-side with the Director. This position is an executive leadership role responsible for managing various operations of the Insurance Department under the supervision of the Director; providing the Director and staff with legal and technical support on insurance issues; and making recommendations to the Director and Administration for department policies and procedures. Reports to the Director of Insurance. Will oversee several divisions of the Department as assigned by the Director. Duties: Oversee and hold accountable various divisions within the Department. Train, coach, supervise, and evaluate division administrators and attorneys. Assist in providing guidance for resolution of complaints and inquiries from various stakeholders including insurance companies; elected representatives; insurance agents; and the public. Work closely with outside legal counsel and the Attorney General's office regarding litigation. Work closely with insurance companies, Department staff, and other state and federal regulators regarding corporate filings such as company formations, applications to domicile, and insurer acquisitions. Collaborate with stakeholders through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners to represent Firm in developing sound policies regarding financial and market regulation of the insurance industry. Requirements: 5 years insurance or regulatory experience and licensed to practice law in the State of Firm or currently licensed to practice law in another state with the ability to readily obtain a license in Nebraska.
