A law firm seeks a Patent Agent (High Tech) to join its Intellectual Property team in Houston, TX. This role involves performing complex client work, preparing draft patent applications, and responding to USPTO communications. The position requires a high level of professional capability and skill.

Duties

• Prepare draft patent applications incorporating scientific aspects of inventions.
• Draft responses to communications from U.S. and foreign patent offices.
• Discuss scientific aspects of inventions with clients and provide reports to attorneys.
• Act as liaison between inventors and the Patent & Trademark Office.
• Evaluate and report on technological aspects of inventions.
• Advise attorneys on technologies and conduct investigations as needed.
• Draft, organize, and summarize documents.
• Conduct regulatory and factual research.
• Coordinate workflow with outside service providers.
• Organize and prioritize tasks under time constraints.
• Identify and solve complex patent issues.
• Provide guidance to legal support staff.
• Stay updated on technology trends and patent prosecution issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering preferred.
• Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred.
• Strong investigative and problem resolution skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical information effectively.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse individuals.
• Advanced oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently.
• Proficiency in various software packages and standard office equipment.
• Knowledge of time management and project management strategies.
• Ability to travel as needed for client matters.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering preferred.

Certifications

• Licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office preferred.
