Job Overview:
A well-regarded law firm in the Oak Park, IL area is seeking an experienced Senior Immigration Attorney to join its dedicated legal team. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex immigration matters, mentor junior attorneys, and advocate for detained and non-detained clients before immigration courts and federal agencies. Duties:
Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
Conduct legal strategy meetings and consultations with clients
Manage a high-volume caseload involving both detained and non-detained individuals
Prepare and file a variety of immigration applications including I-589, I-130, I-485, waivers, and more
Draft legal briefs, motions, and related filings for immigration court and USCIS
Visit detention centers and conduct intake interviews with detained clients
Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and community organizations on legal matters
Lead client preparation for hearings and USCIS interviews, including witness preparation
Supervise and mentor legal assistants and junior associates as needed
Monitor legal developments and ensure compliance with changing immigration laws and policies
Requirements:
5 to 8 years of experience in immigration law
Proven record of managing complex cases and delivering successful outcomes
Experience working with detained individuals and humanitarian-based relief
Strong leadership and collaboration skills within legal teams
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law in any U.S. state
Good standing with relevant state bar (Illinois preferred)
Skills:
Extensive knowledge of immigration law, EOIR procedures, and USCIS practices
Excellent legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
Ability to develop and execute case strategies independently
High emotional intelligence and professionalism when dealing with sensitive cases
Experience using immigration case management software preferred
