Job Overview

A highly regarded litigation firm is seeking a Claims Management & Coverage Counsel to join its team, with reporting aligned to its New York City office. This role is an excellent opportunity for attorneys experienced in insurance coverage, claims management, and risk mitigation across a wide range of specialty and professional liability lines. This position is offered fully remote, providing flexibility while maintaining active collaboration with clients and colleagues across the country.

Duties

• Independently manage claims caseloads from notification to resolution

• Evaluate coverage, liability, and damages issues across professional, employment, real estate, miscellaneous liability, and D&O matters

• Draft reservation of rights and coverage denial letters

• Develop handling and resolution strategies to mitigate exposure

• Assign, coordinate, and manage outside counsel as necessary

• Prepare detailed reports to clients outlining exposure analysis and reserve recommendations

• Resolve claims through direct negotiation and mediation participation

• Work collaboratively with partners and team members on legal projects

• Interface regularly with clients, carriers, and external counsel to ensure optimal outcomes

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in insurance law and claims management

• Previous experience drafting coverage letters and opinions strongly preferred

• Experience working in private practice desirable

• Familiarity with specialty and professional lines coverage issues

• Ability to manage a high-volume caseload efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Education

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications

• Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

Skills

• Strong legal research and writing abilities

• Excellent oral communication and negotiation skills

• Skilled in interpreting insurance policies and assessing potential legal risks

• Ability to develop strategic solutions for early resolution of disputes

• High level of organization and attention to detail

• Proficiency in legal practice management software and communication tools
